New Identity
Cornwall’s oldest Muay Thai Club ‘Falmouth Thai Boxing’ is finding a new identity and branching out to new projects this month
Not only has the established martial arts group, based at Falmouth Sports Club, rebranded to ‘SO8’, it will also be opening a branch in Truro on Monday 14th November.
Both the Falmouth and Truro schools will now come under the new SO8 brand, referring to the Muay Thai term ‘science of eight’, the eight comprising of two hands, elbows, knees and feet, the primary attacking parts of the body in the sport.
With over 25 years’ experience, the clubs head instructor Ian Davies said ‘we are really excited about the changes happening at the club. Muay Thai training is considered by many to be the best way to become very fit and toned. Many sessions at the club are about hitting pads and circuit training For a lot of our students, the mentality is to train like a fighter but not compete, you can still learn the punches, kicks, knees and elbows on pads but without the contact.
The club’s fighters have established a good reputation for their dedication and hard work in preparing for bouts, and have had a recent run of success in competitions.
The New Truro SO8 Thai/kickboxing school will open Monday 14th November at Truro High School at 7pm.
The popular club in Falmouth has had something of a facelift too. It has a fully matted training area and now provides a variety of classes including beginners, children, ladies only, fighters only, sparring, circuit and abs classes.
Classes are mixed sex at both clubs and it prides itself in having a no ego, no bullying mentality.
